Hold for Authentication - Printing from MAC

You may come across situations where a print sent to printer thru Papercut waits at the printer queue stating "Hold for Authentication"

By clicking the circle next to the print job on hold this will allow you to re-enter the current username and password.

This happens most often when the user ID \Authentication cannot be verified by the printer. To solve the issue you need to check in the Keychain.

Type keychain in search and it will open the keychain window. In the Name section scroll down and select the entry for "MCHS or MCC Print".

In the "MCHS_Print" Keychain item properties the username should be "XXXXXX" where XXXXX is the school user ID.  DO NOT type secondary\ or CEO\When this changes to the user name of the Mac book or any other user not connected to CEO the above-mentioned issue occurs.

Additional Notes

When a macOS dialogue box is prompting for a username and password for a service, it will pre-fill the username with the username of the logged-in local computer account. For a BYOD device, they need to change the username to "lastnameinitial01" so that papercut knows the correct user.

In certain instances, the Keychain may not have the MCC Print. This is due to not entering the user Id and the password at the initial authentication dialogue box when something was sent to print. If the user ID is correctly mentioned at this place as mentioned above that will also sort the issue.

Correct Username & Password formats are:

Students: student\College-Username& Password

Staff: staff username & Password
