Click On. If a prompt appears, click Enable Dictation.
If you want to use Enhanced Dictation, select its checkbox.
With Enhanced Dictation, your words appear while you speak, and you don’t need to be connected to the Internet. If you select this option, you’re prompted to download the language data your Mac needs for voice recognition. The amount of space required for the download depends on the language.
If you don’t want to download the data required to use Enhanced Dictation, you can use an online dictation method. Your words appear after you’re done dictating because they are quickly sent to Apple servers to be analyzed. This method takes advantage of the latest language data. For more information, click About Dictation and Privacy.
To change your dictation language, click the Language pop-up menu, then choose your language and dialect.
If your language isn’t listed, choose Customize, then select the language you want. You can download multiple languages.
Turn off dictation
